AMD Expands Lineup with Revived Zen2 and Zen+ Processors for Entry-Level and OEM Systems
AMD has introduced three new processors to its portfolio: the Ryzen 7 4700LE, Ryzen 5 3501U, and Ryzen 3 3100U. These additions mark a return to the proven Zen2 and Zen+ architectures, targeting OEM partners and entry-level computing solutions. The move highlights AMD’s strategy to extend the lifecycle of its established technologies for cost-effective and reliable system builds.
Ryzen 7 4700LE: Zen2 Power for OEM Desktops
The Ryzen 7 4700LE is based on the Zen2 architecture, originally launched in 2019. This processor features eight cores and sixteen threads, delivering a base clock speed of 3.6 GHz and a boost frequency of up to 4.2 GHz. With a 65W TDP and support for the AM4 socket, the 4700LE is designed specifically for OEM desktop systems. Notably, AMD’s official specifications do not mention integrated graphics for this model, setting it apart from most Renoir-based desktop APUs. The Ryzen 7 4700LE is listed as an OEM-only part, making it available exclusively to system manufacturers rather than the retail market.
Ryzen 5 3501U and Ryzen 3 3100U: Zen+ Processors for Mobile and Embedded Applications
Expanding the Ryzen 3000U series, AMD has added two new Zen+ (Picasso-based) mobile processors: the Ryzen 5 3501U and Ryzen 3 3100U. The Ryzen 5 3501U offers four cores and eight threads, with a base clock of 2.1 GHz and a boost up to 3.7 GHz. The Ryzen 3 3100U is equipped with two cores and two threads, running at a base frequency of 1.9 GHz and boosting up to 3.2 GHz.
Both processors feature integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics, providing eight compute units operating at 1,200 MHz. They support DDR4-2400 memory and utilize the FP5 package, making them suitable for thin-and-light notebooks and embedded platforms. The default TDP is set at 15W, but it can be configured between 12W and 35W to accommodate various system designs. According to AMD’s product documentation, these models are scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2026.
Target Markets and Availability
The Ryzen 7 4700LE is positioned exclusively for OEM desktop systems, while the Ryzen 5 3501U and Ryzen 3 3100U are aimed at affordable laptops and embedded devices. These processors are expected to appeal to manufacturers seeking reliable, cost-effective solutions for entry-level computing. As of now, AMD has not released pricing details for any of the new models.
