Framework Updates DDR5 and LPDDR5X Memory Pricing Amid Rising Supplier Costs

Framework, known for its modular laptops and mini-PCs, has provided a new update regarding the cost structure of DRAM components, particularly DDR5 memory, in its latest community post. The company reports that DDR5 memory for its systems is now priced between $12 and $16 per gigabyte, depending on the specific kit size and total capacity. For example, a 16 GB DDR5 kit now ranges from $192 to $256, while a 32 GB kit can reach approximately $400 for the Laptop 12, 13, and 16 models.

This pricing reflects the average cost Framework incurs based on the type of memory kit—whether it’s a single high-capacity stick or a pair of lower-capacity DIMMs. The company emphasizes that these adjustments are a direct result of increased supplier costs, which vary depending on the configuration.

Significant Increase in Memory Costs Since Late 2025

Back in December 2025, Framework’s DDR5 memory pricing stood at $10 per gigabyte for 8 GB, 16 GB, and 32 GB modules, with slightly higher prices for dual-rank non-binary 48 GB modules. However, in just two months, the market has shifted significantly. Framework now faces supplier price hikes ranging from 20% to 60%, depending on the memory configuration. This surge in component costs has affected not only standard DDR5 modules but also models equipped with soldered LPDDR5X memory.

As a result, Framework has had to adjust the pricing of its desktops and mainboards. The company states that the new system and mainboard prices are now 6% to 16% higher than previous rates. Framework assures customers that these increases are strictly to offset the higher costs from suppliers, and not for additional profit.

Ongoing Market Volatility Expected

Framework anticipates that supplier costs for both DDR5 and LPDDR5X memory will continue to rise in the coming months. The company remains committed to transparency with its community, providing regular updates as the market evolves. Customers considering a Framework system should be aware of these industry-wide pricing trends when planning future purchases.
