According to sources in the ChipHell tech forums, AMD's next-generation Ryzen 9000 series "Granite Ridge" desktop processors, based on the "Zen 5" microarchitecture, are rumored to be released in late-July, 2024. The initial lineup will consist of 16-core, 12-core, 8-core, and 6-core SKUs, covering the Ryzen 9, Ryzen 7, and Ryzen 5 series, similar to the Ryzen 7000 series launch. AMD may introduce these processors during its 2024 Computex keynote address, providing an overview of their features and performance before the official late-July launch.
The launch of the Ryzen 9000 series in late-July should also coincide with motherboard manufacturers showcasing their new AMD X870 chipset-based motherboards at Computex. These processors will utilize the existing Socket AM5 package and should be compatible with current AMD 600-series chipset motherboards. Many motherboard vendors have already released UEFI firmware updates to ensure compatibility with the Ryzen 9000 series processors. Users pairing a Ryzen 9000 series processor with an AMD 600-series chipset motherboard can easily update the BIOS using the USB BIOS Flashback feature available on most motherboards, including entry-level models.
